As a Deacon in the early church, Saint Phoebe, sent by the Apostle Paul, ministered in the church of Cenchreae, a busy port near Corinth, which was a common stop for travelers. A big thank you to Fr. Mike Angelovic, senior priest in the archdiocese, for donating his chalice to OLL, where he grew up. Father attended OLL school for several years before attending our seminary in Kenmore. Fr. Mike was ordained in 1967 and served in many parishes in Western Washington, including our own Assumption Parish. Let’s remember Fr. Angelovich in our prayers.

On Saturday, August 2, ten enthusiastic hikers gathered for our very first group outing at the beautiful Discovery Park. It was a wonderful morning of connection, fresh air, and breathtaking views. As we walked the trails together, new friendships began to form and conversations flowed easily. We concluded our hike with a heartfelt prayer of thanksgiving, grateful for the gift of community and God’s creation. We’re already looking forward to our next adventure—stay tuned! The month of June through mid-July continues a trend of receiving requests for help from neighbors we have not seen before (17% of calls received were from new neighbors). The good news is that several of these neighbors are moving out of homelessness! However, they move into subsidized housing with nothing, only the clothes they own. This means they have no furniture, kitchen items, beds, towels, hygiene items, food, etc. We visit these neighbors and often sit on the floor of their living rooms to hear their stories. The Homebound Ministry at our NE Catholic parish family currently has 17 volunteers who regularly bring the Holy Eucharist and provide companionship to 59 parishioners at 15 different locations. This includes our seniors, the sick, and those disabled or recovering from an injury who are living at home or in a local care facility but are not able to attend Mass. Continue reading...
